Jurassic World Rebirth Returns to Where It All Began

Universal Pictures released the final trailer for Jurassic World Rebirth, the latest installment in the Jurassic World series, which also happens to be the seventh overall film in the Jurassic franchise. Jurassic World Rebirth is set to open in theaters during the Fourth of July holiday weekend on July 2, 2025. The fourth film in the Jurassic World series and seventh in the franchise will star Scarlett Johansson and Mahershala Ali and directed by Gareth Edwards.

Jurassic World Rebirth will take place at the original Jurassic Park research site, where the team will be on a mission to find the last remaining dinosaurs on the planet. Five years after the events of the previous film in the series, Jurassic World Dominion, Earth’s biosphere has become less habitable for dinosaurs. As a result, the dinosaurs are now restricted to highly secluded equatorial regions with tropical, sub-tropical, and temperate climate zones that replicate prehistoric Earth’s ecosystems. The three largest animals remaining in the Jurassic World Rebirth biosphere are a giant carnivorous dinosaur on land, a predator in the ocean, and a pterosaur in the sky. The three also carry a gene thought to unlock a revolutionary drug with the power to save lives.

Scarlett Johansson will star as Zora Bennett, a special operations operative, in the new Jurassic World film. She will lead an elite team on a covert mission to secure the elusive dinosaur genetic code. When the team’s mission crosses paths with a family boating trip, a series of events, including an unexpected aquatic dinosaur attack, strand the civilians on a long-forgotten island where an original Jurassic Park research facility was once hidden. The trailer suggests the threat is more than just dinosaurs, as the research facility’s secret may be deadlier than prehistoric terror itself.

Meet the Cast

The film is an ensemble cast with an impressive roster of talent. In addition to Johansson and Ali, the film also stars Rupert Friend, Jonathan Bailey, and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo. Friend will play Martin Krebs, a pharmaceutical company representative who has a mysterious agenda, while Bailey will play paleontologist Henry Loomis. Garcia-Rulfo will play Reuben Delgado, the captain of the ship with a family of four. Delgado’s family includes his children, played by Luna Blaise, David Iacano, and Audrina Miranda. Bechir Sylvain also has a role as a member of the team.

Ed Skrein and Philippine Velge also have roles in the upcoming film, though the exact characters they are playing have not been released.

Very little of the footage from the first trailer that premiered in February is included in this final trailer. The new trailer opens with an animated lab sequence with a technician in a hazmat suit struggling to escape the room he is in with a T-Rex in hot pursuit. “Help me!” he screams as the camera pulls away, but it’s already too late. The trailer sets the tone with just this one sequence, so viewers can expect a very action-heavy film with its fair share of edge-of-your-seat, heart-pounding suspense and chomping dino terror.

In addition to showing the trademark action for which the series is known, the trailer also hints at one of the film’s potential biggest set pieces: the attempted theft of a pterosaur egg. One character is heard saying, “It’s a flying carnivore the size of an F-16,” and another mentions Quetzalcoatlus northropi by name. As for the other dinosaurs, we see one of the film’s iconic raptors and what looks like a completely new aquatic dinosaur. Judging by what one character says in the trailer, “this island was used to quarantine the worst of the worst.” This would seem to be an admission from the film’s villains that some of the most unstable dinosaurs ever cloned were sent to the island as part of Jurassic Park’s original efforts to destroy its research.

While Jurassic World Rebirth is being sold as a reboot, the film is not going out of its way to distance itself from franchise regulars. There are many familiar elements in play here, including the return to the original Jurassic Park research island and a new take on the threat the dinosaurs pose.

Jurassic World Rebirth is scheduled to open in theaters nationwide on July 2, 2025, just in time to devour the competition during the holiday weekend.
