Nurse Chapel Faces Romantic Turmoil in Strange New Worlds

The wait for the new Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is over as Paramount+ has released the official trailer for Season 3. As previously reported, the third season will premiere on July 17, 2025. The official trailer comes on the heels of the April teaser trailer for the season and shows a lot of the information previously teased.

Season 2 concluded on a Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season finale that saw the Enterprise caught in the middle of a surprise Gorn attack. The Gorn race is invading a Federation colony world when the Enterprise becomes involved, and multiple crew members are captured. It leaves Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) in a bind during the season finale episode, and he must either follow the directive and order to retreat or risk the rescue mission. Naturally, Pike will go the more heroic route, and the continuation of that story at the top of Season 3 will be one of the main focuses of the new season.

A small sneak peek at what Season 3 had in store was revealed in October at the New York City Comic-Con 2024. The trailer picked up immediately from the season finale cliffhanger and dove right into a high-speed space battle. The space battle is one of the hallmarks of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds that showcases the battles against the Gorn, and the teaser leaves no question that it’s the continuation of that conflict. The new trailer expands on that concept and will be the conclusion to the storyline, as the teaser confirms. The trailer also teases a new and mysterious danger that the crew of the Enterprise is sure to uncover.

Paramount+ confirmed earlier in 2024 that the Gorn storyline would be complete in Season 3 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. The new trailer teases that even though they will be closing out their arcs with the Gorn, the season will also introduce a new antagonist to the series. The new villain will be a test of loyalty and push the crew to their limits, both mentally and physically.

Season 3 also teases an expansion of the types of stories being told throughout the season as well. In addition to the expected outer-space adventuring in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, this season will include episodes that explore different genres and tones. The official synopsis confirms episodes about faith and duty as well as romance, comedy, and mystery.

The list of expected genre deviations from Paramount+ showrunner Tod Wash confirms that the season will also shift gears from the types of stories previously seen in other Star Trek series. Fans can expect similar forays into different genres on the new season.

The main and returning recurring cast will all be back for Season 3, with many returning actors reprising their roles. As reported, the new addition to the series is Cillian O’ Sullivan as Dr. Roger Korby. Korby is an established legacy character who was played by Michael Strong in Star Trek: The Original Series. In the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds era, Korby is an archaeologist with a specialization in medical archaeology and was the long-lost fiancé of Nurse Christine Chapel (Jess Bush). Korby’s mysterious return will come at a time when Chapel has moved on and is in a relationship with Spock (Ethan Peck). His return will also have immediate effects on the crew, both personally and professionally.

Paramount+ also confirmed that Rhys Darby and Patton Oswalt will guest-star in the new season. Both comedians will bring humor to the new season, as the trailers have started to show as well. The April trailer played heavily into the episodes that will dip into a lighter comedic genre. Rhys Darby also has some Trek credentials of his own and was most recently on The 116th Street Crew on Star Trek: Lower Decks.

In the latest trailer, the teaser of the second season’s finale and season three premiere can be seen. James T. Kirk (Paul Wesley) is seen standing in for Pike in the captain’s chair, even if it is only for a moment. While the new trailer does not reveal what role Kirk will have in the larger story or events of the third season, his time as a leader will be a trial for him as a character. Pike is more than quick to remind Kirk, as he is learning the ropes, that being captain means the burden of command and the choices he makes will be his and his alone.

The trailer closes out on a comedic note, as Star Trek: Strange New Worlds usually has at least one every season. The scene comes from an episode with Patton Oswalt’s Vulcan. The Vulcan is on the receiving end of a unique Vulcan version of a “high-five” with Spock. Spock first shows his buddy how to properly high-five, then a second time when he asks him to go “down low.” The bewildered Vulcan is confused as to why Spock would do that to him, and Spock simply deadpans back with “Because you are too slow.”

Release Date and Schedule

Season 3 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will debut on Paramount+ on Thursday, July 17, 2025. The third season is also confirmed to receive a renewal for Season 4. The new episodes will be released weekly on Thursdays with the final episode airing on September 11, 2025.
