Ballerina Final Trailer Reveals High Stakes and Higher Body Count
From the World of John Wick: Ballerina is less than one month away from its cinema release, but fans still have one more trailer to tide themselves over before its June 6, 2025, premiere. This latest — and supposedly final — look at the Ana de Armas-led spin-off sees the core plot of Ballerina’s story revealed, with the film’s titular character set on a ruthless path of revenge.
A Time During John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum
The events of From the World of John Wick: Ballerina take place during the time of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, which was released in 2019. Keanu Reeves’ John Wick had been killed off-screen during the events of Chapter 2 — Resurrection — but was resurrected in the opening of Parabellum when he failed to deliver a plea for help to a former fellow assassin. The High Table — the governing body of the criminal underworld and assassins — declared John Wick “excommunicado” after he broke a sacred rule by gunning down the Russian mafia crime lord Santino D’Antonio (Riccardo Scamarcio) in the courtyard of the Continental Hotel. The High Table placed a multi-million-dollar bounty on Wick’s head, which set the former assassin on the run across New York as he attempted to find help from those around him.
Fans were quick to praise the story set-up for Ana de Armas’ Ballerina, which seemed to contrast heavily with the John Wick saga as a whole. The Ballerina trailer, however, continued to tease the lead-up to the young assassin’s violent killing spree, with a focus on Eve Macarro’s background.
Fans were given more of what they wanted in the March 2025 second trailer for Ana de Armas’ John Wick spin-off. That particular preview opened with Wick and the character played by Ana de Armas in a standoff during a snowfall, setting the stage for some extended — and much anticipated — screen time between the two. Afterward, the Ballerina trailer turned to Eve Macarro’s character arc and training under the Director in the Ruska Roma before having her seek out and brutally attack a man on a public street, introducing the kind of violence audiences could expect to see in the film.
The third trailer for Ana de Armas’ Ballerina is slightly more ominous, opening with a silhouette of Ana de Armas looking up as John Wick aims his gun at her from afar. In addition to the updated opening, the preview also takes a more stylized and dynamic turn with both previously viewed and new footage that shows the Ballerina running, jumping, and blowing away her enemies with brutal force and precision.
The message that hits home at the end of the trailer is a succinct yet extremely clear indication of Eve Macarro’s intentions: “This isn’t done until they’re dead.” As one might expect, this part of Ana de Armas’ John Wick spin-off Ballerina was met with near-universal acclaim from fans.
A Familiar Line for the Ballerina
The familiar and fan-favorite character of John Wick is featured in the Ballerina trailer, but he isn’t necessarily the focus. The Ana de Armas-led John Wick spin-off Ballerina will continue to focus on its namesake character while still allowing room for Reeves’ John Wick to shine onscreen.
The behind-the-scenes team and collaborators behind From the World of John Wick: Ballerina are no strangers to the John Wick franchise. Sherifris and Schwartz are first-time directors, but they previously served as writers and editors on John Wick: Chapter 4 – Streaming Parables. Elsewhere, Anna Gerb, who is serving as the producer on Ballerina, was part of the producer teams on Chapter 3 – Parabellum and Chapter 4 – Streaming Parables. Also attached to Ana de Armas’ spin-off is music supervisor Janyce Marrello, who was part of the music team for John Wick: Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 – Parabellum. Director of photography Adam Stone has also had a prominent role in the John Wick series, with credits on Chapter 1 – Facing Almereyda, Chapter 2, Chapter 3 – Parabellum, and Chapter 4 – Streaming Parables.
