MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — The annual Steps for Sleep event returns to Minnesota this September, rallying community support for children in need of a safe place to sleep. Hosted by the Twin Cities nonprofit My Very Own Bed, the sixth edition of this cherished family friendly walk and wellness gathering is set for September 26 at DeLaSalle High School in Minneapolis.
Serving Families Across Minnesota
The Steps for Sleep event not only offers a scenic group walk but also emphasizes the vital role of sleep health and physical activity in children’s lives. Proceeds from the fundraising event will directly support the organization’s mission to provide new children beds and Dream Kits to families transitioning from homelessness to stability throughout the Twin Cities region and beyond.
Wellness Fair and Community Connection
Central to the day’s activities will be an interactive wellness fair. Attendees can participate in hands-on activities, interact with local health experts, and gather resources about sleep health and general well-being. This initiative highlights the importance of healthy routines, aligning with My Very Own Bed’s focus on giving each child the foundation for better rest, emotional security, and improved educational outcomes.
Transforming Lives with Beds and Dream Kits
Founded by Michael Allen, My Very Own Bed has delivered over 12,000 beds and dream kits—bundles including bedding and bedtime essentials—to local children since 2014. The group partners with regional social service agencies and relies on local volunteers to ensure that children receive not just furniture, but a sense of stability and comfort as they settle into their new homes. Plans for 2026 include reaching at least 2,100 more children in Minnesota, reflecting a continued commitment to community support.
Fundraising Goals and Matching Support
This year’s goal is to raise $100,000, with a notable boost from sponsors pledging to match the first $15,000 donated. Organizers encourage both individuals and teams to join the fundraising effort. Participants may walk the event route at DeLaSalle or choose their own location anywhere in Minnesota from September 12 through 26, making the walk accessible to all supporters of this worthy cause.
Getting Involved in the Mission
Registration for the Steps for Sleep walk is free and open to all ages. The event aims to create awareness about sleep health and provide a meaningful chance for the community to advocate for local children. By joining the walk, volunteering at the wellness fair, or contributing financially, residents help address the critical, often-overlooked need for comfortable children beds and healthy sleep environments across Minnesota.
Strengthening Minnesota through Physical Activity and Community Support
The Steps for Sleep walk and wellness fair underscore the enduring relationship between physical activity, good sleep, and family stability. As My Very Own Bed continues to serve children in the region, the organization’s annual event reaffirms the value of grassroots community support and the difference that a safe place to sleep can make in a child’s life.
